The You You Need

May you be the you that you need you to be …

This line, as is the entirety of Harry Baker’s poem, Unashamed, is a call to action.

In my “if I had a dollar” series, I add the (too many) times I have heard the regret, yearning, frustration, aspiration that comes from having focused on the version of ourselves that suits everyone … (too often) to the detriment of ourselves.

If there is shame to be had, it is for how widespread this is.

And, yet the hope lies in recognising it in ourselves, and asking:

What does this version of you look like?

How might it feel to let it free?

And, what is one small step you could take today to be a little more of this you?

Life is short. Too short to not be the you that you need you to be,

don’t you agree?!
