Easy Mode

Easy mode.

It doesn’t exist for every thing. Nor do we want it to. Some things are more meaningful and satisfying when they come with a challenge.

Discerning where to enact ‘easy mode’ is, in fact, not so easy.

The productivity-obsessed pressure we experience in work and life can have us seeking the easy mode for any, and every, thing that we do.

In truth, there are many things we only ever do in ‘easy mode’ compared to how they were once achieved.

With each of these switches to ‘easy mode’ we will experience benefits, and intentionally avoid the challenge and hardship. We will also discover unintended consequences.

Will I learn something?

Will I continue to build skill and mastery?

What will I lose/miss/atrophy in this approach?

What does this moment need most?

These are some of the questions I ask when considering the ‘easy mode’ approach to the everyday actions, to systems and processes, and to the bigger decisions and projects.

How about you? I’m curious what thought you put into the use of ‘easy mode’ in your work and life.
