Time Goes

Where did the day go?

Yes, we’ve all had days where a glance at the clock takes us aback and we wonder where time went.

I recently witnessed an interaction where someone asked this question aloud at the commencement of a meeting only to be met with the (rhetorical, and perhaps snarky) question: aren’t you the one in control of your time?!

Yes … and …

With a productivity focus we can find ourselves believing that by applying all of the tools and techniques such as boundary setting, time-boxing, calendar optimising, and more, then we will be in control of our days and never wonder where they disappeared to.

Oh, if only control wasn’t an illusion.

There is no doubt that productivity tools have their role in supporting each of us in getting through the many, competing needs of our work and lives.

And, there is no doubt that they are not a panacea for when life happens.

Moving away from the machine analogy of ‘how to human’, we appreciate that things don’t always go to plan.

On any given day there will be time for doing, being, giving, taking, driving, striving, and navigating.

On any given day we may ask ourselves, where did that day go? And, then answer, there is always tomorrow.
