Sweet Sounds

If a tree falls in the forest …

A philosophical question for our times, don’t you agree?

In full it ask us: If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?

And to which one might consider that the answer only matters to the tree and the forest.

There are not many aspects of life in our times that exist where ‘no one is around’ and too often it is the opposite at play. There are too many eyes and ears on every single thing we do.

It makes you wonder, does meaning and connection and satisfaction exist if there is no one else to bear witness?

What if we were to live without every action being surveilled in some way?

What if we were to do our work for the intrinsic value we and others receive?

What if we weren’t performing for the sake of productivity, instead for the sake of making things better?

What if we didn’t feel the weight of measurement and comparison at every turn?

What if we got to live our lives for the sole purpose of living our lives?

I’d say it would make a sweet sound; how about you?
