Still Smiling

I’m smiling.

Long after a winding conversation with the family about books, I am still smiling.

As we began talking my mind went to the task I was yet to finish and I weighed up if I had time to do both. It turned out to be a good decision to remain in conversation.

Earlier in the day, I had read the words of writer Joie Preis:
rarely are the conditions perfect, but small joys still wait patiently to be noticed.

Yes, this was one of those joys that I could have easily missed had I opted for the ‘now isn’t a good time’ option. But I didn’t miss it, and long may it hold as another lesson in remaining present and open to the joys that exist everywhere.

As the day winds down, I am still smiling.

I hope the small joys have you smiling, too.
