Simple Is The Way
Could it be simple?
‘It’ being the answer, a process, our goal or plan, a system, the recipe, and [fill in the blank].
As we navigate greater complexity, uncertainty and change, we find ourselves creating - and then drowning in - even greater complexity, uncertainty and change.
We are told that ‘it’ requires us to go there. We encourage the self-fulfilling prophecy, especially as we create, and begin to depend upon, more and more tools to work in this complex, uncertain and changing environment.
What if simple is the way?
We often shun simple, because it is … simple.
We tell ourselves:
… we must be missing something!
… this is ill-considered, shallow, untrustworthy!
… it is too simple!
What if we stop hiding in the complexity of more data, more information, more arguments and more ideas? What if we resist the allure of more? And, what if we put our energy into the (sometimes difficult) exercise of paring something into less?
We might just find that simple provides us with all that we need.
