Shower Ideas.

So reads the folder label in my writing ideas file.

There are other folders. Of course. After all, there is no such thing as too many ideas.

There is something special about the shower ideas. A reminder that when we free ourselves from direct thought, instead busying ourselves with the task at hand - showering- it provides the ideal conditions in which ideas can bubble to the surface. Warm water, solitude, and a moment to breathe also helps.

A seed that was sown the previous day, or week.

A conversation with a colleague or friend.

That article we read while waiting for an appointment.

The sign at the local coffee shop.

The view from our window.

And more. Much more.

Everything is a source of ideas, and for the ones that don’t materialise immediately, the shower comes through for us.

The shower ideas folder is a treasure trove in my systems of work, and life.
