See Change Everywhere
Yellow Geminis everywhere …
Many moons ago, a school friend purchased a bright, banana-yellow car called a Gemini, after which all we ever saw were yellow Geminis.
Ever since I have termed this cognitive bias the Yellow Gemini theory; psychologists refer to it as the Frequency Illusion or the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon. Once we learn of something new, we often see it everywhere.
Whilst this phenomenon is one of those cognitive quirks of being human, I’ve often found it quite useful when seeking change.
That new habit/skill/goal/dream/[fill in the blank] that we’re seeking in our work and life can show up on repeat once intentionally seeded in our brains.
When we have been dreaming of a change, it is amazing how often we see signs of the dream appear in books, shows, conversations, current affairs and more.
When we wonder how you make change happen, it is amazing how often we see examples of the change in action.
It feels as though the change we seek is everywhere, and makes it increasingly real and possible.
These days we’re unlikely to see any real yellow Geminis, but I wonder what we might see, do and be instead.
