Rest Matters
Rest matters.
While reading an ad recently, I was disappointed to see a lunch break being rebranded as the ‘life admin power hour’ and encouraging people to squeeze as many errands in (including a food and caffeine stop) and return to work ‘feeling like you’ve got your life together’.
This seemingly innocuous ad, which to be fair is simply someone’s creative copy to sell their offering, unfortunately contributes to the
busy as a badge,
24/7,
productivity driven
culture we live and work within.
It is one of many messages from all angles suggesting that this way of life is necessary, noble and normal.
What if that isn’t so?
As the author of Rest is Resistance, Tricia Hersey reminds us, “Resting isn’t an afterthought, but a basic part of being human.”
It is good for us, on so many levels, to take a break, and give ourselves permission to stop and rest. It’s okay to take our lunch break as a lunch break.
I’m off to take a break, how about you?
