It’s In The Pencil

It is still in my pencil.

Such was the divine answer given by the young child when the teacher asked: where is your journal writing?

How often do we reach the end of a day/week/month/year with our journal writing equivalent remaining in the pencil?!

And, how often do we expand our answer with all of the reasons (or excuses), promises (or wishes), and context (or stories) that the moment seems to warrant?!

It doesn’t seem to matter whether it is our own reflection or a question being asked of us, feelings of obligation, expectation, regret, shame, and more can lead us down this path.

What if we were to adopt the simplicity of this young child’s viewpoint, and to accept that we’re not finished … yet.

It might just be time to pop that pencil in our bag ready for tomorrow, don’t you agree?!
