Still So Much

“I still have so much to do.”

In my work, I often hear these words. They are usually accompanied by a long, exasperated sigh. Of course, the 21st century productivity obsession will do that to you.

I recently read these same words in a chapter entitled: Lessons from Japan’s Centenarians from the book, Ikigai. The full quote is “I’m ninety-eight, but consider myself young. I still have so much to do.”

That sense of purpose and meaning is palpable. They ring of want/choose/get to versus the weight of shoulds.

We may, or may not, be striving to reach ninety-eight and beyond, but we could all do with some of the optimism, don’t you agree?!
