For Years

It has been on my list for years …

These words from a friend describing a breakthrough with her work are timely.

Speed and efficiency have become the standards by which most things in our work and lives are judged by. Yet there are countless examples where much-needed, groundbreaking results have come from long-term thoughtfulness, effort and endeavour.

When I observe someone admitting something has taken time - sometimes, years - it is often tinged with guilt and a sense of failure. It is not surprising as we humans do tend to take on the expectations of those around us. When the zeitgeist suggests that we move fast and break things, having a long-term vision and carrying it through with care and thought runs counter.

If I’ve discovered anything in my life, it is that things take the time they take.

And so, as I celebrated my friend’s achievement, I wondered how each of us might revisit something that has been on our list ‘for years’ and continue to bring our vision to life. It seems like an ideal way to start a new week, don’t you agree?!
