Comforting Truths

There is comfort in seeking out the truth.

I know this statement runs contrary to the general tendency for us humans to believe a comfortable lie in order to avoid, or deny, an uncomfortable truth.

And yet there is much to be gained

when we remain open and curious,

approaching work and life with wonder and contemplation,

we can ask the questions needing asked,

find answers we don’t currently have, and

by sitting with the discomfort,

making sense of the messiness and unknown,

we can learn something new,

challenge tightly-held stories,

gain understanding,

knowledge,

wisdom, and

a newly discovered comfort in our knowing.

It is a choice we make, many times, each day.

We can choose to rest on the banks of Denial,

or to dip our toe into the waters of knowledge and truth.

It truly is a comforting change to seek.
