Catch Your Breath
How are you?
Busy, is too often the reply.
What if we stopped wearing busy as a badge?
What if we listened to the words of the poem, Wonderful, by (the wonderful) Harry Baker:
You are never too busy to catch your breath.
And catch, of course, does not mean hold.
How often do we attempt to change things, place our busy badge in a draw, and stop to rest and reflect, only to discover we’re holding our breath. Perhaps in fear, anticipation, or simply from years of operating in busy mode?
No wonder …
when so much of the world around us is designed for busy,
when we are valued by our productivity and outputs, and
when we are expected to act like machines.
We humans are not meant for the 21st century definition of busy.
We are instead meant for
So. Much. More.
I discarded my busy badge long ago, although it can prove hard not to pick up one of the many on offer.
I persist because I believe in
something different,
something more,
something better.
I believe in the final line of the poem:
The best is yet to come.
