Yes, you can start now …

The conversation was specifically about planting, and whether autumn is the best time to begin planting.

It moved quickly to matters of discernment and which rules of gardening are real. 

We landed on knowing that there are indeed times to follow the seasons; understanding that some plants are suited to seeding, growing and harvesting at different times of the year. 

Then there are those that follow their own set of ‘rules’. Perhaps perennial, hardier, or simply nonplussed, these are the ones that will grow wherever and whenever. 

And so it was that we decided it’s okay to plant now.

Which makes me curious, what are the rules we must discern this week, and what can we decide to start now?
