Act With Zest

Act with zest

one day at a time,

and never mind the rest.

These words from the Ancient Greek poet Horace are as useful today as they were then.

How often do we spend our days with our mind to the future?

How much do we shape our action (or inaction) to what we think tomorrow needs?

How focused are we on trying to control the uncontrollable?

Horace’s Ode was unlikely the first time we were encouraged to focus on the present; many versions of the same message have come since. Yet there is something special in the words he wrote:

Act with zest.

Zest.

Enthusiasm. Energy. Gusto.

Yes. Imagine if we were to bring zest to this very moment, and this very day, and it isn’t difficult to see how our focus shifts.

Less worry about then; more zest for now.

A centuries-old message, perfect for today’s work and life, don’t you agree?!
