To Play Is Human

To play is human.

I heard my colleague state, “when I have space and time, I want to play; I don’t want to work”. The immediate thought is: don’t we all?!

Because play is at the heart of being human. We may usually associate it with being child’s work, until we tap into our inner child and realise it is as uplifting, rejuvenating and meaningful as an adult as it was when we were younger.

Ideally we would each have the opportunity to find work that allows us to play everyday. Work that provides experimentation, flow, engrossment and joy is good for us, in so many different ways. 

It makes me wonder, what if we encouraged space and time in all parts of life for play? Imagine what a difference that could make.
