Stop Justing

Beware the allure of justing.

In The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows, author John Koenig describes justing as ‘the habit of telling yourself that just one tweak could solve all of your problems’ [emphasis mine].

It has become even easier to tweak things - big and small - so much so, that we can get lost in these actions.

A deadline might help us to resist the urge for justing, but what of the deadline-free things in our work and life?

It’s always worth asking ourselves if

just one more edit, or

just one more colour change, or

just one more idea, or

just one more YouTube video, or

just one more course,

is going to make that big of a difference.

Perhaps, now is the time to accept that good enough is good enough.

I’m curious, how might you resist the allure of justing?
