Remember When

I remember when …

gamification was fun!

Back in the early 00s I studied how to use gamification in change and professional development and it was new, intriguing and hardly being used anywhere. It was fun and effective; a winning combination.

Fast forward a couple of decades and we have reached (passed?) peak gamification. It is everywhere.

As I wonder (and grumble) about my desire, and need, to collect badges while purchasing everyday essentials online, it further confirms the saying that there can be too much of a good thing.

Just as every company, product, service, website, and more did not need to jump on the gamification bandwagon, there are countless other examples of too muchness in our work and lives.

Discerning how we can keep things useful, effective, engaging and fun is a skill worth applying to all that we do.

I’m curious, how do you navigate the world of too muchness?
