Play At Work
How was play today?
Perhaps that is the question we ask when we take on board the words of philosopher and writer, Alan Watts:
Instead of calling it work, realise it is play
After all, play is serious business. It isn’t reserved for children; instead a basic human need.
Play is an active and interactive pursuit, meaningful and purposeful, intrinsically driven and rewarded, yet social, requiring us to be engaged and communicative. Play is good for our overall wellbeing, providing opportunities for adventure and joy.
Who could want for more than that?!
No manner of re-engineering our workplaces can completely destroy the need and opportunity for play. It is always there waiting for us to see it, unearth it, and demand it. Most of all, as with any of our human needs, we must do it; we must play.
What if you were to realise it truly is play,
and by doing so, ask yourself: how was play today?
