Just Because
Just because …
This is an acceptable response to a ‘why’ question that comes our way.
As I look across at one of my screens, currently live-streaming from the Katmai National Park in Alaska, I pause to watch the big brown bear sitting in the river, eating a freshly caught salmon.
Why?
Just because!
I have been asked a similar question for the last six years of partaking in the Fat Bear Week fundraising and celebrations for Katmai’s brown bear population.
My answer doesn’t change. We do not always need to do the things that reside on our to-do lists, or in a set of KPIs. We can do things just because.
Every ‘just because’ represents a different kind of purpose.
Fun and enjoyment.
Curiosity and interest.
Wonder and awe.
Satisfaction and fulfilment.
We humans are more than performance and productivity, and more often than not, our real needs and purpose can be met through what we choose ‘just because’.
I’m curious, what has you answering ‘just because’?
