Difficult Or Difficult …

Difficult

does not equal

difficult

does not equal

difficult …

Example 1:

Spending (too many) hours trying to find a solution to a deliberate flaw in a tech system is difficult. It is also frustrating and, at times, rage-inducing.

Example 2:

Watching my son pick up my juggling balls each time he enters my office, and over a period of many months, it is clear that learning to juggle is difficult. Going from dropping to juggling is reward for the effort and is joy-inducing.

Example 3:

Clicking on the Sudoku puzzle and seeing the rating as Diabolical reinforces that this one is going to be difficult. Nutting it out and putting into practice all the lessons I’ve learned over time provides a sense of accomplishment and creates even greater learning.

Putting our effort and energy into difficult things can bring a sense of meaning, purpose and joy for us humans. For that reason we’ll often choose difficult on purpose.

These examples, and the many more I could list, reinforce that there is difficult and there is difficult.

I know which I’ll continue to choose; how about you?
